Isabela Island, the crown jewel of the Galápagos, is the largest island in the archipelago—stretching 62 miles in length and spanning 1,791 square miles. Home to just 3,000 residents, it remains wild and unspoiled, with towering volcanoes and sweeping Pacific views. Offshore, its waters are among the richest in the Eastern Pacific, teeming with tuna, bonito, and squid that attract schools of blue marlin.

Our Outfitter: For more than twenty years, Sportfish Galapagos Expeditions (SFGE), led by veteran explorers Peter and Al, has been the islands’ most experienced sportfishing operator, offering guided adventures on San Cristobal and Isabela Islands.
Season:  The Isabela season runs from March through June, the peak time for blue marlin.
Marlin Species:  Blue and black marlin
Methods:  For Isabela Island, Sportfish Galapagos Expeditions (SFGE) offers conventional fishing and offshore fishing.
Group Size:  Fishing packages are available for private groups of one to four anglers. Each booking is exclusive—groups are not combined—so you’ll enjoy a personalized experience with your own party.
Travel Time:  1 hour and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 50 minutes to the prime fishing grounds.


The Fishing Program

Troll or heavy tackle for blue or black marlin at Isabela Island with Sportfishing Galapagos Expeditions.

Boats:  You’ll fish from 38-foot Sportfishers custom-built in Ecuador and powered by twin 600-HP outboards. Each vessel has an enclosed restroom, a salon, a flybridge, outriggers, a fighting chair, stand-up gear with harnesses, and all safety equipment required by the Ecuadorian Navy. Professional three-member crew and up to four anglers.
Fishing Equipment:  Custom-built trolling rods paired with 80- and 130-lb. Shimano reels are provided. A detailed packing list will be included in your confirmation packet.
Fishing License:  All required fishing permits are included in the package.

A Typical Fishing Day:
6:00 a.m. – Fresh coffee available at the hotel.
6:50 a.m. – Your host meets you in the lodge lobby for the short transfer to the water taxi dock.
7:00 a.m. – Fishing departure. Breakfast and lunch are served on board.
4:00 p.m. – Return to the dock, just in time for the daily cocktail hour by the pool.
Evening – Your host coordinates dinner plans for the group, either at a favorite local restaurant or in the hotel’s dining area.

Alcohol:  The package includes beer and liquor, which are provided on the boats. A nightly poolside pre-dinner cocktail hour with beer, wine, and liquor is also included at Iguana Crossing. Any alcohol beyond that is charged per drink on a nightly tab. Liquor can be pricey in the Galapagos, so we recommend purchasing your liquor duty-free before clearing customs in Guayaquil. You are allowed to purchase up to three liters of your choice of duty-free liquor.

Getting to Isabela Island:

Quick Summary:  You’ll fly to Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the primary Gateway to the Galapagos Islands. After an overnight stay at a hotel in Guayaquil, you’ll take a short domestic flight (under two hours) the following morning to the Galapagos Islands.
From Guayaquil, you’ll take a one-hour and 55-minute flight to Baltra Island. You’ll then take a 35-minute island hopper flight from Baltra Island to Isabela Island. This is the quickest way to get to Isabela, and the charter flight is included in the package.
Travel Summary:
• Fly to Guayaquil (GYE), Ecuador.
• Overnight in Guayaquil (Hotel Oro Verde or Hotel del Parque).
• Next morning, fly to Isabela (domestic flights included).
• Two hotel nights in Guayaquil are required and included (arrival and departure).
