Halibut Fishing Alaska and Canada

We arrange guided halibut fishing trips for the great-eating chicken-sized to monster-sized halibut at great lodges in Alaska and Canada. For eating quality, many anglers consider smaller to medium-sized halibut the best table fare. Fish in roughly the 20–80 pound range are usually preferred because the meat tends to be firmer, whiter, milder, and less coarse than very large “barn door” halibut. Once halibut get extremely large—100 pounds and up—the fillets can become thicker, softer, and sometimes less delicate in texture. That’s one reason Alaska regulations often protect the middle slot and encourage harvest of smaller fish under about 34 inches, which are excellent eating fish.
