Where does the Jardines Fleet II (JAF2) operate?

JAF2 runs liveaboard fly-fishing itineraries in Jardines de la Reina and Isla de la Juventud, two protected marine park areas in Cuba.

What species can I target?

This fishery is known for tarpon, bonefish, and permit, with chances for jacks, barracuda, and snapper depending on conditions.

When is the best time to go?

Fishing is productive most of the year. Spring through early summer often brings strong tarpon opportunities, while bonefish and permit are encountered year-round on suitable tides.

What is the guide and skiff setup?

Guests fish from shallow-draft skiffs with experienced local guides. Daily plans mix poling on flats with sight-fishing and, when appropriate, wade sessions.

What rod weights should I pack?

Common setups include an 8-weight for bonefish, a 9–10-weight for permit, and a 10–11-weight for tarpon, all with tropical saltwater floating lines and appropriate leaders.

What are the accommodations like onboard?

JAF2 is a modern liveaboard yacht with air-conditioned cabins, full meal service, and comfortable common areas designed for anglers.

Are there conservation or park rules I should know?

These are protected areas with strict regulations. Catch-and-release practices, designated zones, and guide directives help preserve the flats fishery.

Can Fishing with Larry customize or host trips on JAF2?

Yes. We arrange hosted weeks when available and tailor custom packages to dates, target species, and group size.

What travel logistics should I expect?

We’ll advise on current Cuba entry guidelines, recommended flight gateways, in-country transfers to the marina, and a detailed packing list for gear and clothing.

Where the JAF2 Operates The Jardines Avalon Fleet II (JAF2) is a 130-foot luxury liveaboard that splits her season between two of Cuba’s premier fisheries:
Jardines de la Reina (low season) – January - February & October - February.
Isla de la Juventud (peak season) – March 7 - June 27, 2026.

Lounge Area

The yacht accommodates up to 20 guests (12 anglers and 8 companions sharing with anglers), supported by a professional crew of 9. It features ten air-conditioned staterooms each with private bath. At times, the liveaboard may also accommodate divers. The design and interior decor give the yacht a touch of intimacy, refinement, a sense of warmth, and simplicity.

Dolphin 16 ft. Super Skiffs teamed with Yamaha 70-HP motors. Jardines de la Reina (JDR) offers more fishing hours than any of our Cuba destinations and is ideal for fly anglers who desire to fish from dawn to dusk, about 5:00 p.m.
Fishing License: Your fishing license is included in the package. The package does not include the Marine Park Conservation Fee of $500 per person (2026/2027).

Liveaboard Cabins

The yacht offers 10 air-conditioned cabins, each with a private bath, twin beds, individual climate control, 110/220-volt outlets, and ample storage. Large windows provide refreshing natural light and Caribbean views.
Communications: Wi-Fi is not available on the liveaboard. Before your trip, you’ll need to check with your cell service provider to see if your U.S. cell phone will work in Cuba. Satellite phones are NOT allowed in Cuba and will be confiscated at the airport upon arrival.

Getting to the JAF2 in Jardines de La Reina:

1. You will fly directly from Miami, FL, to Ignacio Agramonte International Airport (CMW) in Camagüey, which is a 1.5-hour flight.
2. Upon arrival, a Cubatur representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Júcaro Port, approximately a 2½- to 3-hour drive. For groups of fewer than six guests, ground transfers between Camagüey Airport and Júcaro Port are $100.00 per person, each way.

3. Once you arrive at the port, you will board the yacht and depart for Jardines de la Reina. The journey to the destination will take between three to five hours. Upon arrival at Jucaro Port, you will board the liveaboard and begin your fishing week in the Jardines de la Reina.
Departure Day: You’ll fish in the morning then return to the liveaboard around 2:00 p.m. The yacht will return to Jucaro Port, where you will overnight. Early the next morning, you will return to Camaguey for your departing flights.

Sunday - Thursday:
7:00 a.m. Wake-up call.
7:30 a.m. Breakfast.
8:00 a.m. Fishing full day with packed lunch.
If your group would prefer lunch at the JAF2, please inform your guide well in advance. You'll return in the afternoon to the liveaboard and enjoy appetizers. Dinner and overnight on JAF2.
Note: The schedule can be changed according to your preferences and your guide's suggestions.
Friday:
7:00 a.m. Wake-up call.
7:30 a.m. Breakfast.
8:00 a.m. Fish a half-day with a packed lunch. At 2:00 p.m., you will be transferred back to Júcaro port with estimated arrival at 7.00 p.m. Appetizers at JAF2. Dinner and overnight at JAF2.
Saturday: 5:00 - 8:00 a.m. Disembarking at Júcaro Port. Transfer to Cayo Coco, Camagüey (2-hour drive), with an estimated arrival at 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. *If you have a pre-arranged flight, you can disembark the boat early for departing flights from Camaguey.

Equipment Rentals:

A fly rod and reel rental, including lines, is $350 per person per week. Diving equipment rentals are $250 for a full set of diving gear per week. Rentals require 60-days’ notice before your trip.

The JAF2 Policies:

Required Waiver of Liability: Upon your arrival, you will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability before participating in the trip. This legal document outlines the inherent risks associated with the activities and includes a release of liability for the outfitter to the extent permitted by law.

Deposit Policy: For trips confirmed more than 18 months before arrival, a 20% deposit is required at the time of booking, a 50% deposit is due 12 months prior to arrival, and the remaining balance is due 90 days before arrival.

Cancellation Policy: To qualify for a refund, cancellation must be made more than 240 days before the trip start date. An $800 handling fee per person will be deducted from all approved refunds. Within 240 days of your trip, your deposit is non-refundable. No refunds are available for unused portions of packages. Full payment is due 90 days prior to arrival. Credit card payments cannot be accepted for anything on the Liveaboard. All programs and their execution remain subject to weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances beyond the outfitter's control, and claims for refunds arising from such circumstances will not be accepted. The refund policy is not applicable to rescheduled or rebooked trips. Therefore, once a trip has been rescheduled or rebooked, it is ineligible for a monetary refund of any kind and claims for refunds will not be accepted.

IMPORTANT: Trip Cancellation insurance is strongly recommended, and “cancel for any reason” insurance is important to consider in the event of unforeseen circumstances that prevent you from traveling. If you cancel LESS THAN 240 days BEFORE YOUR trip, trip cancellation insurance will be your only possible form of reimbursement. If you would like trip cancellation coverage for reasons not included in standard travel insurance policies, please inquire with your travel representative about the No Risk Policy.

Travel Insurance: Fishing with Larry strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance when traveling to Cuba. In our experience, the outfitter rarely offers refunds or credits for missed trips, regardless of the reason. We have had anglers miss their trip due to weather delays and mechanical airline issues, and receive no compensation from the outfitter. Travel insurance is the best way to protect your investment and avoid a costly disappointment.
