Paragua River - World Record Payara Fishing
Lodge set world record Payara of 39-pounds+
| 2012 Hosted Week: |
| ● March 1-11 with host Guy Schoenborn |
The Paragua River is home to the largest payara in the world. Described as a salmon with a bad attitude, payara often exceed 30-pounds, strike with enormous power and strip line off very fast. This is the only lodge in South America exclusively geared to payara. You can also catch the fierce aymara, another prehistoric lure crunching fighter that grows up to 40-pounds. The lodge adheres to a strict catch and release policy. The current all-tackle world record payara is 39-lbs. and 4-oz, and was set by one of the lodge guests. The lodge also has several line class records registered with I.G.F.A. Uraima Falls Lodge is open for prime fishing mid-January through mid-May.
You'll fish from 35’ sturdy dugout canoes which are ideal for fishing close to rapids and in fast moving water. Two native guides and two anglers per canoe One guise is the driver who guides the canoe; the other is the payara guide who aides you in landing fish. The canoes have swivel seats, rod holders and all the leg room you need. The furthest fishing area is only ten minutes from the lodge.
Uraima Falls Lodge
The Lodge is located on an island. The rustic designed lodge has three, private, thatched roofed cabins. (The locals call them churuatas.) Each cabin has two rooms with two beds in each. Each cabin shares a bathroom - no hot water. In the main churuata, they serve three meals daily. The open design makes guests feel like they are being hosted in a private and exclusive club in the middle of the rainforest. They also have two large open design churuatas where you can enjoy a siesta. There is 24-hour water. Electricity is available after 6 p.m. at the lodge. Enjoy the view of the Paragua River or go for a walk on its sandy beaches.
