Canada - Suskeena Lodge
Sustut River Steelhead Fly-Fishing
Fishing is September 2 - October 21, 2012.
There are no roads on British Columbia’s Sustut River system. Anglers who are lucky enough to fish for the giant steelhead of the Sustut, must fly in by plane or helicopter and then travel the river by jet boat or helicopter. With a Class One status, the Sustut is deemed so rare and valuable that all non-resident anglers must be guided. Catch and release is strictly enforced. Fly-fishing only. Single barbless hooks are required.
Due to lack of logging pressure, the Sustut is in shape longer than any other Skeena tributary. By September, steelhead begin to appear. The run builds throughout October. Steelhead average 14 pounds and often reach well into the high twenties. There are 30 to 35 pound fish landed here each year. Three anglers per guide. The lodge has three 17’ jet boats with 115 h.p. motors.
Suskeena lodge is nestled on the banks of the Sustut River between two productive fishing drifts. The main log lodge is for dining and tying flies. Enjoy home cooked meals, seasonal delicacies, fresh baked breads and wine with dinner. Cozy, riverside cabins are deemed the nicest in B.C. for steelheaders. Two guests per cabin. Each cabin includes a bathroom with shower, stove and sitting area. The intimate lodge accommodates up to nine anglers.
