Peacock Bass and PAYARA Fishing

Rio Negro - San Simon system Amazonas Region

Cano Negro Lodge is situated in the midst of a 4.5 million acre nature preserve where the river and lagoon systems have the highest concentrations of peacock bass anywhere on earth. Peacocks range from 2 to 12-pounds – by the thousands. It’s not uncommon for one angler to land thirty to forty peacocks a day using top-water or sub-surface lures and flies.

Payara Fishing

The mighty saber-tooth payara offers the thrilling, tackle-busting fishing experience of a lifetime. Ten to fifteen hookups a day is the norm on payara. Other excellent gamefish include brawny pacu up to thirty pounds, brilliant yatoranas, muturos and surubi (giant catfish).

Cano Negro Fishing Guides

The guides are knowledgeable of the river systems. The hard-working, Spanish speaking guides do not speak English very well, but they'll help you select the right lures/flies and provide help with casting technique. The lodge has a full-time bilingual host.

The fishing boats range from aluminum sleds to local custom-made wooden boats. They are equipped with outboard motors, casting decks, comfortable seats, and ample coolers to store drinks and lunches. They also use specially made very long, very stable dugouts. Peak fishing is mid-July through October and dove shooting is available early May through October. Request an information sheet for more details.
