La Zona freshwater dorado fishing is unrivaled in the world and is home to over ten fly-fishing world records. The fishing area is limited to 4 boats and 8 anglers per day. Anglers usually average 15 to 25 strikes per day. Fish average about 14 lbs with a chance at dorado over 50-pounds. 20-pounders are commonplace. Peak season is December 1 to May 15 when the Uruguay River is at its lowest. Topwater lures and flies are best.
This exclusive fishery allows no more than four anglers per day. Fish from comfortable 21' fiberglass console boats with 90 h.p. Yamaha motors and two big casting platforms, bow and stern.
During the spring season, August 15 to November, the river is at its normal flow and huge schools of big dorado migrate to the dam to spawn. Rapala X-Raps and similar crankbaits are hot during this time. Only flies and artificial lures are allowed.
Cozy refurbished lodge with ranch setting. Four, air-conditioned bedrooms with private baths. Lodge has swimming pool, tackle shop, great food, and famous Argentine wines.The lodge is 15-minutes from the airport, and five minutes from fishing.
